In a past interview with Vogue, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin opened up about their relationship, his struggles with drug addiction, and his personal connection to faith. Justin reflected on his challenging experience during the summer of 2017 while touring, which eventually led to the cancellation of several shows. He admitted that he was battling depression and loneliness, needing time to rediscover himself and reconnect with God.
Justin also spoke about the factors that contributed to his struggles with addiction and depression. He shared, “I’ve had a hard time trusting people, feeling like they’re using me or not genuinely there for me. Writers often try to take something from me and use it against me. A big issue for me has been trusting myself. I’ve made poor choices in both my personal life and relationships, which have impacted my confidence in my own judgment.“
Bieber’s rise to stardom was a globally publicized phenomenon. His rapid ascent to fame brought immense wealth, millions of devoted fans, and little time for self-reflection. Bieber revealed for the first time that he turned to drugs and alcohol as a way to cope with the fast-paced lifestyle fame imposed.
“I found myself doing things I was ashamed of, being super promiscuous, and I think I used Xanax because of the shame. My mom always taught me to treat women with respect, and that was always in my mind while I was doing these things, so I could never enjoy it. Drugs became a barrier between me and my actions. It got really dark. I think there were moments when my security would come in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing.“
Justin explained that he eventually sought help from his pastor for his worsening mental health and addiction issues. In 2014, he returned home for an informal detox. He didn’t enter a formal treatment program, hire a sober coach, or attend AA meetings, but he managed to achieve sobriety and regain mental clarity.
Though Justin now drinks alcohol socially, he says he hasn’t used drugs since. Hailey, who has been sober her entire life, ensures there is no pressure between them regarding alcohol or drug use.
