Kit Harington, known for his role as Jon Snow in the acclaimed series “Game of Thrones,” has announced his decision to spend time at a wellness retreat to address personal challenges.
According to Page Six, Harington has been staying at the luxury Prive-Swiss retreat for about a month, arriving just weeks before the series finale on May 19, 2019.
A representative for Kit Harington shared that the conclusion of “Game of Thrones” had a profound impact on the actor.
“He realized, ‘this is it — this is the end,’ something they had all poured years of hard work into. He had a moment of, what’s next?” Harington’s representative stated.
The rep also noted that Harington is at the clinic mainly for stress, exhaustion, and alcohol-related issues.
Kit decided to take advantage of a break in his schedule to attend the wellness retreat and address these personal matters.
This isn’t the first time Harington has faced personal struggles.
His character, Jon Snow, didn’t become a central figure in the series until the later seasons.
“My darkest time was when the show started to focus so much on Jon,” Harington told Variety. “I didn’t like the attention being centered on Jon — even though it was invalidating my feelings about being the weak link because everything revolved around him.”
As the series increasingly centered on Jon Snow, it began to take a toll on Harington, causing stress. Around that time, he started therapy.
“I went through a rough period, like many do in their 20s. That’s when I started therapy and began talking to people. I felt unsafe, and I wasn’t opening up to anyone.”
Harington’s swift rise to fame and the identity challenges he faced shifted his perspective.
“It’s like being at a party that keeps getting better, then you reach a point where you think it’s peaked. You realize there isn’t more to find in this — the ‘more’ lies in the work itself, not the excitement surrounding it.”
Harington told Esquire that the end of the show led to a breakdown.
“It was an overwhelming mix of relief and grief knowing I wouldn’t get to do this again.”
“Game of Thrones” concluded as one of the most successful TV shows ever, with the finale setting records, drawing 19.3 million viewers eager to see who would claim the iron throne.
