Fans who planned to see Jane’s Addiction last Sept. 26 at Indianapolis’s Everwise Amphitheater got disappointed, as the band has announced the cancellation of their much-anticipated reunion tour.
This decision follows a startling onstage incident between lead vocalist Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro during a recent performance, leading to a halt of the tour altogether.
The band, which had reunited earlier this year with all original members, was on track for a nostalgic tour for ’90s rock enthusiasts. However, the abrupt conflict in Boston left the future of the tour uncertain.
Footage taken by a fan shows Farrell becoming visibly agitated, approaching Navarro mid-performance, nudging him, and, after a brief exchange, appearing to throw a punch.
The moment caught both the audience and Navarro by surprise. Band and crew members stepped in to restrain Farrell and escort him offstage, leaving fans and concertgoers in shock.
In a message posted on Instagram on Monday, Navarro and bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins addressed the situation, stating they had “no choice” but to end the tour due to Farrell’s “continuing pattern of behavior and … mental health difficulties.”
They added, “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs. We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis.”
Concert photographer Brian Mackenzie, who was at the show, provided insight into the evening on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I was shooting the show for the venue…that clip really has everything notable that happened onstage.
Perry had a huge bottle of wine with him all evening, Navarro and Avery kept chatting with each other the whole show and seemed angrier than normal.” Mackenzie added that many fans initially assumed the incident was staged as part of an encore performance, but house lights came on shortly afterward, signaling the end of the show.
The band has assured fans that refunds for affected dates will be available through the original points of purchase, while those who purchased tickets through third-party vendors like StubHub and SeatGeek are encouraged to contact these vendors directly for assistance.
