Rehab can be an intimidating journey, but it often leads to life-changing outcomes. For those entering drug or alcohol rehabilitation for the first time, the initial weeks may feel uncertain, so let’s explore what to expect during this critical period.
Starting with Detoxification
Upon arrival at Sunrise Recovery, you’ll begin with a medically supervised detox. Typically, detox lasts five to seven days, though it may extend depending on the severity of addiction. Detoxing from prolonged or intense substance use can be challenging, even dangerous, so Sunrise’s compassionate medical team will develop a tailored discharge plan for you, offering medications as needed to ensure a safe process.
While it might seem tempting to indulge one last time before detox, it’s safer to avoid this. Doing so increases overdose risk and can complicate the detoxification process. The most secure option is to continue your current routine and allow professionals to guide your withdrawal safely.
Programs and Services
Following detox, you’ll transition to Sunrise’s residential facility for a 35-45 day stay. Here, you’ll engage in a variety of group, individual, and family therapy sessions tailored to meet your specific needs. Alongside therapeutic work, you’ll also participate in support meetings like SMART Recovery, where you can share experiences with peers.
These sessions focus on understanding the thoughts and triggers behind substance use, equipping you with skills to manage your emotions, maintain sobriety, and stay committed to wellness.
Daily Routine
At Sunrise, each day includes three nutritious meals served at 7 a.m., 12 p.m., and 5 p.m. These mealtimes provide an opportunity to connect with peers in a supportive environment. Additional snacks are also available upon request.
In the afternoons, scheduled recreational programs offer a refreshing complement to treatment. Understanding the challenges and introspection involved in recovery, Sunrise provides enjoyable activities like music therapy, fitness classes, and other enriching options to bring a positive balance to your time here.
Your engagement in the program will shape your experience—an open mind and commitment to the process will help you make the most of treatment. While the first week of rehab may feel daunting, it marks the beginning of a journey that offers lasting wisdom and rewards.
